Mick Foley
Michael Francis Mick Foley Sr. was born on June 7, 1965 in Bloomington. He is an author and part-time expert wrestler. He worked for WCW, ECW and for WWF/E. After his birth his family moved to East Setauket Island New York, where he got admission in Ward Melville High School and took part in wrestling. During his life at State University of New York at Courtland, he went out to Madison Square to see the steel cage match of his favorite wrestlers Jimmy “Superfly”, because he like his splash body and this inspired him to start his career as a wrestler. Foley is a registered Democrat and was criticized by George W Bush. He opposed John Layfield in a speech during the presidential election of 2004. He got married to Collette and has three sons and a daughter.
Early Wrestling Career of Mick Foley
Foley got training at Dominic DeNucci’s wrestling school and he makes his debut in June 1985. He also took part in some squash matches for the WWF TV. After spending several years in an independent circuit, he started receiving the offers from various regional wrestling associations. He joined CWA and teamed with Gary Younger and won the CWA tag title in 1988, but later on he left CWA for the World Class Championship Wrestling. Foley won the light heavyweight and tag team championship before leaving the company. After that he joined Alabama’s Wrestling Federation and Herb Abram University Wrestling Federation and here he teamed with Bob Orton to feud many of the wrestlers. He soon left UWF and joined Tri-State Wrestling because of its violent style of wrestling. During his work there he got the attention of World Championship Wrestling promoters and after working for a long time with GWF he joined the WCW.
WCW career of Mick Foley (1991-1994)
On September 5, 1991 he joined the WCW and attacked String and got feuds with Van Hammer and Abdullah the Butcher. String won a non title match against Foley at Beach Blast 1992. Foley stated that this was his best match ever. On April 6, 1993 Foley and Leon White requested to have an intense match but WCW edited this match because it was against their policies to show the bleeding. Foley got stitches and suffered a broken nose. He got out for some time from WCW as the result of the injury. He made return in 1993 in a match to save the British Bulldog. In WCW’s most special match he faced Vader but, he lost the match and due to the extreme violence WCW refused to book further matches between them.
In 1994 during the WCW’s tour of Europe, Foley and Vader faced in of the most famous matches in wrestling history. In a match he tore his ear completely off and underwent a surgery. Later the year, he won the tag team title match.
ECW, SMW, and Japan career of Mick Foley (1994-1996)
After leaving WCW, Foley decided to show his violent, he then went to Extreme Champion wrestling and began a dispute with Sabu and they created some memorable matches. He teamed up with different wrestlers at different time for the tag team matches.
At the end of 1994 he joined that Smokey Mountain Wrestling and defeated Boo Bradley. Here he gain popularity because of his bloody feuds with many wrestlers and he accused of having sexual relationship with Sytch. Before the feud was resolved he left out the SMW.
Foley went to Japan in 1995 and joined IWA, here he again involved in many feuds with Terry Funk and Shoji Nakamaki. But he soon returned to ECE. He defeated Terry Funk at Hostile City Showdown in 1995. Later for the ECW Championship he fought with Sandman and he knocked the Sandman and was declared as the winner of the match, but after that the decision was rolled back and they said that title cannot be given by knockout. Foley also continued to wrestle for the independent circuits and here he won the championship
IWA organized ”King of the Death Match” tournament and this match features a new chemistry that every wrestler will have a weapon to fight. He defeated the Terry Gordy and in the final he defeated Terry Funk with the help of Tiger Jeet Singh. Later he said in “life in wrestling” Mick Foley video that he was given only $300 for the entire night. After the tournament he teamed with Track for the tag team title. Foley returned to ECW and teamed with Tommy Dreamer and defeated previously defeated 911. He played his last match for ECW in April 1994 and later he said that this was the memorable moment of his life.
World Wrestling Federation career of Mick Foley (1996-2000)
He came to WWF in 1996 with a new attraction he became poplar because the Mick Foley entrance style, Mick Foley entrance music was different and greatly appreciated by WWE spectator. He appeared first time in WWF at WrestleMania and fall into a feud with the Undertaker and this feud finished in a match “King of the Ring” 1999. During the match the manager of Undertaker accidentally struck him. They began to snooping in each others competitions and to stop this issue they were engaged in a Boiler Room match and Foley won the match by the interference of Paul Bearer. Thus he became the number one contender to the WWF World Championship against Shawn Michael in 1996. Michaels won this match by the disqualification. The feud ended after the “Revenge of the Taker” match held in 1997 and The Undertaker won the WWF championship by wining this match.
In 1998 he won a match against his former partner Terry Funk and became the number one contender. At King of the Ring Foley faced The Undertaker in “Hell in the Cell” match and in this match he got extremely dangerous injuries when The Undertaker threw him from a height of 26 feet and he lost the match, but both the wrestlers received the praise and that was voted as the “Match of the Year” for 1998. In Mick Foley biography “Have a Nice Day! A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks” he wrote that he could not remember what happened.
In 1999 at Royal Rumble Mick Foley lost the WWF title against The Rock in I Quit match and this match was voted as the “Match of the Year”. On Halftime Heat 1999, he won the title again. After that The Rock won the title with the help of The Big Show. Later he teamed up with The Rock and made a comedy team “Rock n Sock Connection” and became the most popular team at that time and the won the tag team title 3 times. In 2000 Triple defeated the Mick Foley and after that he announced that he is retiring from the wrestling. After his retirement he was appointed as the WWF Commissioner.
In 2003 he was awarded for his achievements and presented the retired WWE Hardcore Championship. In 2004 Foley made his return to wrestling and teamed with The Rock again. In 2005 he defeated the Carlito at “Taboo Tuesday 2005”. On February, 2006 Raw, he returned as a referee for the Championship match between Edge and John Cena. After losing the match Edge attacked on Foley. He challenged Foley and defeated him. On August 21, he joined the McMahon’s “Kiss My Ass” club.
Foley was extremely popular among Mick Foley fans and he spent lots of time with his fans by singing, autograph Mick Foley pictures. He has written many books including his autobiography and most of his books were nominated for award in 2004. He also worked for TV and took part in many TV series, hosts many shows and provides voice for many animated cartoons. He also appeared on Air America Radio and hosts many shows for the WWF radio. He also worked for charity organizations and often visited to schools to encourage the students and traveled to many military bases to meet the U.S troops.
