Jonathan William Coachman was born on August 12, 1974 in Kansas City, Missouri. This sport minded young man excelled in wrestling and basketball. He also worked as a play-by-play announcer for football and was also a color commentator. He is currently working with the World Wrestling Entertainment under the brand name RAW. His Early Sports Career
The Coachman bio states that he was a really great basketball player in high school. He was instrumental in two high school championships wins at McPherson High School and eventually moved to McPherson College to continue his basketball playing. He was a well-rounded young man who was into extra curricular activities and had many interest in sports.
Foray Into Wrestling
Jonathan Coachman was first exposed to then World Wrestling Federation when he first interviewed Linda McMahon. He became one of the more interesting and famous back stage interviewers to be regularly featured in the World Wrestling Entertainment. He became one of The Rock’s constant targets for ridicule and soon their verbal exchanges were one of the most anticipated segments of the show. As popularity rose, so did the demand for Coachman wallpaper and other memorabilia.
He slowly entered professional by the gimmick that he was the lackey of Eric Bischoff, who was the General Manager of RAW at that time. He was eventually made to fight in matches featuring announcers of the RAW show. He won his first solo victory against Tajiri at Backlash 2004. Fans and wrestlers alike mainly disliked his character, The Coach. He featured in many matches against celebrity wrestlers.
Coachman soon caught the ire of his superiors and he was replaced as the top announcer in the WWE by Joey Styles. In spite of Coachman’s vehement denials that Styles was only a temporary personality in WWE, Styles stayed on. In 2006, Coachman disappeared from public view after he was hosting a Diva’s Bikini Contest. During the contest, Viscera attacked him and he was gone from public view for weeks. During his hiatus from the industry, Coachman pictures and Coachman videos were constantly shown to continue interest in him in the WWE. He eventually resurfaced as executive assistant to Mr. McMahon and he acted as general manager when the McMahon’s were not present.
To date, he is now the Interim General Manager of RAW and he still calls several sports events in major syndicates. He is a very successful wrestler who has learned to make just the right mix of aggravation and drama for the fans.
