American Professional Wreslter Gregpry Helms was born in Smithfield, North Carolina on July 12, 1974. He is currently performing with the World Wrestling Entertainment under the SmackDown! Brand. He is the Longest reigning Crusierweight Champion and the longest reigning champion of any kind in SmackDown.

Early Wrestling Career Of Gregory Helms

Helms wrestled in many independent wrestling promotions, which included the Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts (OMEGA) before signing up with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 2000. It was with WCW when he was dubbed by fans as ‘Sugar’ Shane Helms, and eventually won the WCW Cruiserweight title. During this time, WCW was bought by then World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and helms contract wsa included in the purchase.

World Wrestling Federation Career Of Helms (2003-2005)

Under WWF Helms again changed his name to Hurricane Helms which became The Hurricane complete with a superhero costume. His character gradually evolved in to a full superhero due to his real life fixation. Aside from the superhero costume, he also dressed as a 1950s reporter, complete with glasses, and use his real name while in the locker room.

In 2003, the Hurricane found a potential superhero in Rosey and on July 2004, Rosey appeared in his own superhero costume to team up with the Hurricane. The team eventually won the Backlash 2005, World Tag Team Championship.

But they were evetually defeated and in the process, the Hurricane suffered a kayfabe injury. This began a series of loosing matches which as attributed to the Hurricane’s injury. The Hurrican and Rosey split up when Rosey failed to help the Hurricane when he was assaulted by Kurt Angle. After the beating the Hurricane ripped of his mask and hit Rosey for not helping fend off Angle. During their next match, the Hurricane abandoned Rosey by not showing up leaving Rosey alone to face the opponents. While the match was on its way, Helms appeared with out the costume and wathced as Rosey got double teamed. He announced his dismay at being funny for the crowd and of having Rosey as a tag team partner. He reverted back to his real name and again went solo. He has won several titles under WWE, such as the Hardcore Championship, and European Chamionship, the World Tag Team Championship twice and the Cruiserweight Championship 3 times. Notable signature finishing moves are the Helms Buster, the Nightmare on Helms Street and Shining Wizard to name a few.
